NO fuzzy tail and ears here, either! Gil went to "Grandma's" with us. She has a large outdoor aviary, and one side is vacant, so Gil got to hang out in an outdoor enclosure all day. I let him walk through the oat field (there's a trail going over to my brother's house), and he loved that. But he really wanted up in the birch trees, so here's some pics of him in one. You can see the Oat Field in the background.

How far south are you, oats that tall already and able to have an ig outside most the day, I want to move down there.
I would like to play with a tree to get some large branches but have the whole tree be less than 8 feet tall. Put a semi permanent fence around it and have an ig tree. Wouldn't that be cool. I bet I could adapt some Bonsai techniques to work but Bob is getting a little chunky for anything less than 2 inches in diameter.

I live in central California. In the summer it's about 100 most days with a very low humidity level. Easter Sunday it was about 85.
And about the tree. I won't let him get above my arm lenght. When he tries to climb higher, I put my hand in front of him, over his head and tell him "NO." After about 3 tries, he gets the message. The branch he was on was about shoulder high for me.

I can't get Thrasher to stay in a tree. Last time we had an argument about it she bit me. I think she got a bit insulted when I said "You are supposed to LIKE this you idiot." ;D

well, he did a bit of that! I also discovered that birch trees are a bit hard to climb... I guess their bark is so smooth, and there aren't a lot of knots that there's really not much to get a toe hold on.
