Nice looking ig...looks female to me... very pretty....Lyn I would think so due to the lack of jowls in these pics and the lack of brain bumps. They are visible when holding him, however the Femoral Pores are very pronounced. I could be wrong though. Clint

could certain gender characteristics be stunted with lack of UVB?

The shape of the head varries among the igs that I have seen but from the looks of the tail you have a lot more problems than just a lack of UV. Has he been looked at by a vet since the zoo got him? You may end up with a 24" long ig but one that is still alive.
Until someone can have a look at him get him in some sun.
Other than the tail he looks alert, bright eyed, and strong and the greens look good.
thanks for taking your time with him Mark

He gets around 15-45 minutes of outside time every day. Well, except for this week, for some odd reason it's been snowing and raining in the middle of april. His tail was chopped off in a door or something, back when the teacher had him.

I know by experience that regrown tails are black in color and pose no hazard to the ig...but a vet taking a look at it wont hurt...one thats experienced with reptiles preferably...good luck...Lyn

The tail looks normal regrowth to me also. (and I vote female) Her mouth and toes look fairly well formed. Tummy looks pretty skinny but the base of her tail looks nice and plump. See how her skin kinda creases horizontally halfway down her side? That could be from dehydration so make sure whoever feeds her keeps misting her food. I can see in the pic it has been Looks like she could use a wider shelf, prolly has a hard time turning around on that one. (My girl is needing one too) She sure is pretty. Looks great from what I see. Were you ever able to get an appoinment with the vet? A fecal for parasites and a blood panel would give you lots of answers.

I told the boys downtown how much a visit to the herp vet I found would be and fire came out their ears. So I'm gonna have to do the best I can with what I can it looks like. I try to keep him/her pretty hydrated, with watermelon and other fruits, along with spraying her and the food about 4-7 times daily, and I tried to cover as much wire on the cage as I could with card board and plexiglass, but I think the OSB wood just soaks up the humidity. I am going to take pictures of the femoral pores tomorrow to prove to you guys that I aint crazy. Clint and Dudley. BTW, anyone interested in helping me name him/her when I get a positive gender?

WELL! You just tell those guys downtown that Tesa said since they are a ZOO they should be more consciencious about how they care for their animals and set a good example! ;D Seriously, if they don't wanna spring for the blood panel, try to get them to at least do fecal for parasites. You can drop the poo off at the vet and not have to pay for an office call. (usually runs me about 15 bucks) They will most likely prescribe Panacur (never thought till now, but you may already have access to that) and it's not very expensive. I recently bought enough for two doses @ 4 pounds worth of reptile and it was only 7 bucks.

I agree, its pretty sad that a Zoo will not provide veterinary care for one of their animals. I would have thought that they would have had a vet on staff. Or at least one that was available for what ever came up.
