I just know what citrus can do to an igs stomach lining...this is why I suggest keeping the pineapple to a very occasional treat...if at all. IK uses it...his igs seem fine, but some igs are more sensitive than others...and we can't know what iguanas are. I prefer not to take that chance.
As for the green beans...how about the frozen section? These are such a good staple. Green beans don't break down during the defrosting process the same way greens do becoming mushy. It's getting more commonly said that frozen veggies hold in their nutrients better, too. They get locked in during the freezing process while the shelf life of fresh veggie nutrients actually diminish.
At least IK is over there on the reptileforum site. It's tough offering advice with a bunch of yahoos thinking they know better, though.

The mix consists of, baby lettuces, mustard greens, green beans, carrots(which i remove, he hates them and they are high in oxalates, raddachaio(spelling), and parsley. I usually buy different greens, watercress, squash, and occasionally mango fruit to add along with it.. And also asparagus.

My iguana is very, very picky when it comes to eating new things...but if anyone has some different things besides stuff from greenigsociety, etc. then I would appreiciate it.

I know what you mean about the other forum, it has gotten to be ridiculous. But I visit so I can try to help those that really want the advice. I also let fellow Ig lovers know where to get the best info ;D. I also get advice for my other reptiles on the other because as I said there are a couple people with excellent advice and I am thankfull they havent left the forum yet. Anyway back on topic. I will stay away from citrus fruits, Angus has had enough medical issues I dont want to cause him anymore. Thanks!

My iguana is very, very picky when it comes to eating new things...but if anyone has some different things besides stuff from greenigsociety, etc. then I would appreiciate it. The stuff from GIS is the same basic foods all the good websites use. Rehabbers, knowledgeable vets, herpetologists, herpetoculturists - all use the same basic foods. The trick is to try and find what your ig likes. Don't let him be picky. Try drizzling some melon juice over the salad. If he likes grapes best - squeeze a grape over the top. Try the drizzling...and if this doesn't work...we'll try and figure out something else.

If you do away with the lettuces it will help. and chop the food up small so he can't pick thru it.

The leafy foods get chopped, the veggies get grated in a food processor.

Just to shed some light on the pineapple issue, its true that I have used it as an occasional treat. Its very rare that I offer it anymore, now that I have gotten Herc's digestive problems under control. I gave him a little bit every once in a while because its supposed to be a good, natural remedy for bacterial infections. But, once I got the bacterial balance restored in his stomach, pro-biotics alone have kept his little tummy in good condition. It is definitely one of those things that some igs tolerate better than others though, and if its offered at all, it should be only on rare occasions. About reptileforums, the attitude of a few of the people over there is what caused me to leave too. Actually, I'm pretty sure I got banned because I finally got tired of one of them insisting on telling me how horrible a person MK is. That same person seemed to add about 5 years to her resume every couple of weeks and it was just getting silly...especially after her telling me over and over that iguanas aren't capable of forming preferences for specific people, and that they can't be conditioned to trust us. There are a few other things that site engages in and promotes that I don't approve of, but that's just a matter of my own opinion. Thanks for sticking to it jfogle, and directing the iguana owners to good iguana sites. Merlin's got some solid advice, escpecially since you have a baby ig. You can throw all of the food items in the food processor and just pulse it, that way everything gets thoroughly mixed and it'll be in tiny pieces so he'll be able to pack a lot more food into his stomach.

My problem with RF is that I was one of the original staff there when it was just starting and under our team it really took off and was turning into a first rate forum. It really saddens me to see what it has become.

IK, I try my hardest to get the Ig owners to come to this site, there is very few people on RF that have any real knowledge. And I can understand why members want to leave that forum. I havent had any arguments with anyone yet, and so I stay to watch over the Iggies, and try to get info on my other critters. Some other members from there started another forum herpsaround.com.
