How big is Draco? Iguanas are next to impossible to sex when they are small. How about some more pics of the head with a different angle and a pic of the femoral pores? Femoral pores are the row of dots down the bottom of the thigh area of the rear legs.

Draco is around 1 year old. Maybe too young to tell yet. As soon as my batteries to my digital camera juice up i will post some more pics. Thanks for your quick response Merlin. Draco is around 2 and a half foot long from snout to tip of tail.

I'm going to say male! That's my semi-educated guess!
It would help to have what Merlin is asking for...and it may not help even so because Draco is still so young...BUT...with just this head shot it looks as though Draco is already showing the beginnings of the jowls getting enlarged.

ok, i guess i am the only one who thinks Draco looks female. . . .but then again, i was in denial even after Narcy developed the brain bumps and the huge jowls! i finally conceded to Narcy being male when he left a seminal plug! And he developed these traits at approx. three years of age, wasn't till after that his femoral pores enlarged too. I am seeing a smallish dewlap and the large scale (always forget the name) seems a little small to me. And that's my uneducated guess!

Here's a better pic I horked from another Draco thread. Look at that nice, high arch to the nuchal crest. Even Hercules didn't look that macho. ;D

You all are starting to scare me. All this talk about what are male traits and what are female...I'm starting to think my Camille is a boy. I hope not. Obviously, no offense, but I don't want to have to deal with the whole breeding season meany-butts. I'm guessing that the "nuchal crest" is refering to the hump right behind the head on the top...if so, then Camille's is fairly large from what I'm seeing. I know she's still young, and it's too early to tell, but I still hope I'm wrong. I hope she's a she. But we'll see. She's only around 9-10 months old, so there's still some time before I can accurately sex her. This pic is kind of hard to see, but I'll let you take a look and see what you think. This was taken a couple of months ago...Thanksgiving Day. The "crest" has grown quite a bit since then.

Heh...just because you have a boy, doesn't necessarily mean you have to deal with a meany-butt. Hercules has never bitten me out of anger (he bit me at least once, but that was the result of a test bite of an interestingly-colored shirt I was wearing.). On the other hand, Mercury, my previous female, bit me in anger and did a lot of damage. Just remember to establish yourself as the alpha iguana, it helps A LOT. Don't make your ig fear you, but he/she needs to learn to respect you.

Zair has never been a "meany butt" either... . He does get restless, but has never gotten aggressive towards a human. Towards the other male ig in the house...that was different. Now that the other male is gone....he has had his regular, mild (but restless) breeding season.
