i heard when a large amount of well white appears when they deficate it means its a gravid female? well a about a month ago i used to see lots of it! now its not as much but still there...im a little confused about that, and when would i see a seminal plug? i havent in the 4 years i had him and no strange breeding season behavior either is breeding season just once a year? and during what time of the year? Wow...I missed this last post. Anyway...what you heard about a lot of white in the poo and gravid females...someone told you very wrong. There's no foundation to that little myth. Sometimes the seminal plugs come with the poop, but that's mostly because it mught be stuck. The seminal plug is usually left seperately. Not all igs leave them. Zair has only left me plugs in his very first season at 2 1/2 yrs. old. He's now going on 9. He also has no change in behavior during breeding season except for a little extra restlessness unless there's a female where he can see them. The scent doesn't seem to escalate anything. He eats just as much as ever and sometimes he turns more orange, but this year he has only turned slightly. It just depends on the ig. Breeding season is early fall through mid-spring. Some stay in season the entire time...some only a little while of it.

Just a little clarification on what you might have heard about urates in a gravid female, SLN. When a female is in the later stages of being gravid, urates are often all that she will deposit for a couple of weeks just before laying. But, its very small amounts, so someone may have just not expressed their thoughts correctly. The amount of urates may appear to gradually get bigger in relation to the poop...but its actually because the amount of poop is getting smaller as her food intake decreases. The amount of urates in any iguana's poop will often fluctuate depending on what they ate, hydration, etc., but it isn't an indicator of being gravid.

is also not eating as much as usual, is this a sign of breeding season changes? Very possibly, yes. If you know for a fact the heat, UVB and diet are right, then looking at other factors comes in. Has he had a fecal done? Is he parasite free? Is he more restless than usual? As long as he is still eating and pooping...I wouldn't worry right now. It's when he stops completely that you want to take it a litlle more seriously... .

You diet sounds fine...:-) Good job. Sounds like you just need to wait until "the season" is over...
