In young males who are pre-breeding season the pores are not yet developed. It's very common to see the bulges with little pores...after-all...he's only approx. 14 months old yet...;-D
The bulges are pretty prominent...there is a dip in the center right below the vent. The bulk of the hemipenes make that. If it was female - the area would be smooth.

Angus pores looked just like that when we relized he was not a she, and boy have his pores developed since then as well as his "bulges".

Females don't have anything special to look for except for the fact that their tail does not have the bulges. It's easier to tell if it is a male when you see them, but some are hidden for some time yet making what looks like could be a female, in reality could still be a male. Closer to the 18 month mark gives you more prominent details...:-)

Females don't have anything special to look for except for the fact that their tail does not have the bulges. Hehehe...and sometimes the first sign you are given that you have a girl is the 20+ eggs she lays her first season. ;D I'm going with boy on these photos. PERFECT lighting to show off those manly bulges. Just keep up that positive interaction with your boy. ;D
