Hey guys! Cool board! I found these guys through another board. I am glad to see another one starting!
Now to introduce ourselves! RC is my first Green Iguana. I got him through an adoption from someone who has other reptiles, lizards and monitors, but needed to find a good home for him.
RC has three legs. His leg was amputated by a vet when it was broken when he was chased by a dog. He is happy as an only Iguana, and I was content for him to be my ONLY Iguana. ;D
We were doing VERY well. Being in Central Florida in late summer, early fall, RC was content to be outside 24/7 all by himself. He was eating greens and veggies, getting a daily afternoon shower, plenty of GREAT UVB rays, a small tree in his enclosure to climb, etc. LIFE was grand.
THEN my neighbor had to find a home for his FEMALE iggy (I forgot to mention, RC is male). We picked up Jeep on a Saturday. She already had an enclosure, but alas her tail had been broken at one point in time.
Her owner, while trying to feed her right, fed her commercial food with some greens thrown in once in a while. Her tail was not mending very well on that diet.
I brought her home and placed her next to RC. Yeah okay NOT love at first sight! I placed a barrier in between them after a couple of days, and things settled down pretty good.
I now have them at opposite ends of my mobile home outside; where they can smell each other if they TRY hard enough, AND can't see each other, and things are back to "normal".
Jeep wouldn't even let me NEAR her at first, but after a few weeks, and LOTS of time talking and trying to hand feed her, she will let me hand feed her, and reach in and stroke her along her back near her spikes. I can pet her head, but she doesn't like a chin rub yet, and I haven't tried to pick her up, but that will come in time. ;D
Now for me. I am 36 years old, and live on three acres in North Central Florida with my husband, two boys, three horses, many chickens, MANY, MANY outside kitties, four dogs, four Ball Pythons, and three hamsters.
I am planning on doing reptile rescue, and have started (sort of) in my county. I ride endurance on my Arabian mare, only 25 mile LDs right now, but hope to upgrade to fifties in a year or two.
I met Tesa on another board, and we became friends. I have not been on as much as I would like since I started working at Pizza Hut as a delivery driver, but I hope to come here often.
I look forward to meeting you newbies! I have only had my Iggys for a couple of months, but already people are coming to me for advice. I send them to many sites, and now we have a new one to share information and encourage each other through the trials and joys of owning either one, or many Iguanas!
