Hi my name is Clint. I'm from Amarillo, TX and am an employee at the Amarillo Zoo. We recently had an adult male Green ig donated to us by a school teacher who had run out of room for him. He has some health problems, but I'm making a vet appt for him tomorrow morning since we don't have a herp vet on the premises. We haven't had a chance to name him, and we aren't real sure of what his name was before we got him. I also have a juvenile Green ig, that I acquired from a friend who decided he'd rather have a snake. I have named this little guy/girl, Dudley, as in Dudley Do Right, don't ask why. He has what seems to be the beginning stages of MBD but I'm on top of it as my juvi is going to the vet with the adult, and I'm also introducing my new ig to this wonderful thing called UVB and natural unfiltered sunlight. I've read through several posts and believe I have found a home for myself in the Iguana message board society. Hoping to make friends, Clint and Dudley.

Tesa, I've been reading around on this board and you seem to have some good advice, I'm glad I have people such as you to turn to for this sort of stuff. I've been researching Green igs for about 6 weeks and have found myself to be lacking in that department. I know snakes front to back, but I had no idea how differently the care levels were for iguanas. I'll keep yall updated. Monday was my B-day and my parents ordered me a new digital camera since I broke mine about a year ago. When it gets here I'll get some pics online as soon as possible.

Welcome to the Zone! And Happy Birthday! Personally, I think this is THE best iguana forum there is. The people are friendly, helpful, and TOTALLY nuts about their igs!
Glad you're here!

Nice to meet you Clint! Glad the igs have found a friend. There's lots of great websites to learn from and this is a great bunch of people... There's also a couple of books that can help a lot. Melissa Kaplan's "Iguanas for Dummies" and James W. Hatfield III's "Green Iguana- The Ultimate Owner's Manual".

Oh yeah, I forgot to add something. The one I'm about to bring home (the juvinile), is untame. So, does this mean I'm in for a rodeo?? I mess with animals all day and pretty much understand animal psychologly, so I should be fine doing it, but is it gonna be bad or will it be a long smooth acclimation?

There's no way to tell. Every iguana has it's own "personality" and response to stress. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst....and try to ride the full 8. ;D

Hello and welcome. I just joined myself, though I know some of these folks already, Good people! It could go either way with this ig. Just watch the body language as well as your fingers.
Oh yeah I am sort of your neighbor. I'm in Oklahoma City!
