hi I'm new. I've been reading the previous posts on raising iguanas and they have helped me a lot i wish that i had found out about this website last year when i had my first iguana it would of probably saved his life . anyway i was wondering if they were any less expensive ways to heat a tank. I'm not talking about spending less on equipment I'm talking about using less electricity. right now i have a small tank I'm looking to upgrade to a bigger tank soon my ig is about 2 years old i got it from my cuz he was feeding it nothing but lettuce for since he got it. he gave it to me because he wasn't paying it any attention. i have a lot of question but for now i just need that energy question answered

The best way to conserve energy is to have the enclosure completely enclosed. With the excepting of a few air vents. That way the heat stas in the cage and you aren't heating the room and running the AC at the same time. A thermostat to control temps will also help so the heater isn't running unecessarily

Yup - the less open spaces to the environment there is - the less heat wasted escaping. At two yrs old you will be needing something bigger than a tank. I'm guessing this ig will be pretty stunted, but it should still have something more appropriate. You should be thinking about something homemade about now... ;D. Welcome to the forum. Let this be a new start for you and your new ig...

Welcome indeed...You will definitely need something more than a tank at this point. If you build something like Merlin said completely enclosed except ventilation for air to escape then the heat will stay inside the enclosure and there will be less fluctuation on temps depending on the outdoor temps. Good luck with the new enclosure. Do update us with what you come up with
