Hi everyone, I'm new here, been reading this forum for a few months trying to educate myself about raising a healthy Iguana. I just ordered a couple of Mega-ray light bulbs (Mega-Ray 60W EB and Mega-Ray Heat Projector), so I'll need at least two dome lamps to house them. Not having seen the actual bulbs yet, and not being familiar with the heat generations from these bulbs, I'm at loss as to which dome lamps to get, from where. I'm building a new cage for him right now, and I'm planning to use some mesh materials for the roof. I suppose I can put the lamps facing down directly on the mesh roof, correct? Or do I need clamp-type lamp fixtures? Any help would be appreciated. And where should I buy lamps from? Does Home Depot carry good lamps? Thanks!

Not sure about Home Depot, but I know that Lowes carries an excellent 12" reflector dome which works quite well with MegaRays and even heat lamps. They have a ceramic socket, high-temp, Teflon wiring, and a polished aluminum dome/reflector. IIRC, they cost about 12 bucks each. They work quite well, even with high-powered heat lamps, such as the 250W IR lamp I have in my big iguana habitat. Just mount it securely, away from flammable material, in an area your ig cannot come into contact with, and you'll have no problems.

Thanks for the suggestion. I've been shopping at Lowe's so many times these days to buy construction materials for the new enclosure so I'm not too excited about going back there once again , but hey, it's for my iggy!

I went to buy two of those and they are working great! Looks and feels very safe. But I noticed that the screw holding down cables inside the ceramic unit were somewhat loose so I tightened them. You might want to check yours as well.
