i need some advice! I have recently adopted what I believe is a female bearded dragon. I already owned what I THOUGHT was a female bearded dragon but by his behavior when they were placed together, he's clearly a male lol and the vent area looks completley different in both dragons so I know I have one of each gender now.
The problem i'm having is i think the female is gravid. her stomach is rather large, lumpy looking and actually kind of hard... and the male seems to want nothing else but to breed. he bobs his head comstantly. she bobs back slowly but no arm waving. now I think they should be separated, but if they aren't could he harm her while shes gravid? also, can anyone help me with how to help her lay her eggs and how to care for babies?
Thank you so much!!!

I would seperate them! The males will constantly try to breed her and will stress her out. If he is too persistant there may be fighting and injury. Even after the eggs are laid I would not house them together permanently because the male will literally breed her to death! And try giving her a big box full of sand to lay eggs in.

okay thanks for the responses!! I do have an extra 40 gallon tank she can be housed in. Should the box of sand have some soil in it too?

Oh, and after and if she lays them, how can I tell if the eggs are fertile?

Just straight sand should suffice and as far as I know the only way to tell if they are fertile is to set up an incubator and wait. We have beardie breeders over on HerpCenter who are more knowledgeable about the specifics than I am.

I'm having another problem... i gave her a box full of sand..shes not laying anything...and it looks like shes trying to defecate and nothing comes out. she looked fine yesterday besides the not laying, and today her eyes look sunken in and she threw up something brown. I have no idea how she could change so quickly, does anyone have any idea how this could happen? I'm going to bring her to the vet, anyway but is there anything I can do in the meantime?

Dig down in the sand and see if there are any eggs. They look prety rough immediately after laying. If there are no eggs I would expedite the vet visit as she may be egg bound.

How is the beardie today? Beardies don't normally vomit. This could be a serious sign of dystocia (egg binding) or impaction. If she was well hydrated prior to laying she will have a very difficult time laying. Sunken eyes can be both dehydration and dystocia. Poor care before you got her will not be fixed with a short term regimen of good care once you got her home.
Please ler us know how she is.

Thanks for all the advice! Sorry I haven't gotten to post in a while, she seems much better, I have been giving her baths everynight to get her to drink, which she does, and I also put calcium in the water so she gets calcium too.
She isn't eating much, a few collard leaves but no crickets or mealworms, but I suppose thats expected when they are near laying their eggs. Her eyes are not sunken in anymore and she is moving around a lot but not laying anything in her nest box, which has a mix of vermiculite and eco earth soil, and its damp not soaking wet. It's in a tupperwear with a hole cut out on the bottom so she can crawl in there and it's about 4 inches or so deep.
She did lay one egg not in the next box, but underneath her basking spot.. any idea why she would do that? and it looked like the yolk was coming out..and today it's already sunken in..
I'll update again soon!

She is not happy with the egging place. The mix may be too damp. What you are describing is more what you would use in an incubator than a laying box. Change it out for lightly dampened play sand. I would also go with something deeper, about the size of a 1 gallon nursery pot, 3/4 full, and not worry about putting it inside anything.
