I choose names in a lot of different names. I've named literally hundreds doing rescue work for my own rescue and the regular humane society and those we've had of our own over the years. Sometimes I'm feeling a bit of Greek mythology, sometimes a character from a book which is where Zair came from out of the Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. GREAT dragon stories! Sometimes I'm feeling a bit non-religious spiritual and go Pagan/wiccan gods/godesses or my fav rock band or the members in them and even Native American or folksy. Sometimes I just pick up a baby names book and see what's there. Names in Japanese have also intrigued me. I like the syntax needed to make the name right. I had a ferret I named Tama no Yuki which translates to Ball of Snow instead of simply snowball. snowball doesn't even translate in Japanese. There's a million ways to come up with sumpin'! Have fun with it...:-)

Just take your time and see what comes to you. My wife is forever on me about how long it takes to come up with names for new animals! But I want the name to fit! Not knowing if its male or female you can always go with a name that wil fit either one. My ig "Zok" is named after a dragon in an old 70's tv cartoon. Just type in "pet names" into your search engine. There are several sites out there with listings along with what the name means.

Actually Dracula means "Son of Dracul" and is derived from his father's title, Vlad the Dragon, a member of the Order of the Dragon. "Dracul" means "the Devil" in modern Romanian but in Vlad's day also meant "Dragon" and derives from the Latin word "Draco", also meaning "Dragon". The old Romanian word for Serpent "Drac" is now the most common and casual reference to the devil.

I honestly couldn't have said that any better myself!! And THAT is today's history lesson!! :-D Both my girls were really into Gothic lore and the youngest did a paper back in high school on Vlad doing the research together. Learned a ton! Interesting...and disturbing lore there.

I like using latin words (For instance, I'm thinking of naming my iguana Viridis now, which simply means "green"), and all the stuff Prism mentioned I also make up words randomly. For instance, the middle of my name "Gigi" -> "Ig" + the beginning of "Dragon" --> "Dra" made a username I use frequently, "Igdra". I also had "Dark" spelled backwards -> "Krad" + the beginning of my name "Gi" to make "Kradgi". I have tons of names like these. Nitsua, Sakha (means wind. The "kh" is pronounced more like the german language's "ch") and I even used Sangua (which means "poison" in JRR Tolkien's Quenya). You can experiment with what kind of name you want it to sound like. When I made up "Sakha" I wanted it to sound like the wind. So I required the letters "s" and "a". "Ch", to me, sounds gentle, but can also sound powerful. You can also just take stuff form everyday life. I actually thought of naming my ig "Bumper" because he bumped into everything, or "Jenga" like the game, because he knocked everything down. ^^ My previous ig (and currently my current ig's temporary nickname) was Lego. I saw a lizard built up of lego blocks, and I noticed how colorful it was, just like my ig. Later it turned out doubly good, because in Hungarian, Iguana is "Leguán". So we sometimes called him "Legu" instead ^^ Oh, and Merlin, it's not useless trivia It helped in this instance, too, didn't it? ^^ I don't like Vlad by the way. He did bad things =( My vampire-fanatic classmate forced me to read about his execution methods. A very detailed text, mind you, with step by step instructions on his favorite ones. -shudders- I think I'll go watch a cartoon now...everything's so much brighter in kiddy movies. Sorry my reply is so long, but I really hope I helped. Good luck!
