Aiden has this one spike on his back where the tip is praticly torn off but it is hanging on by a thread. It makes is EXTREMELY difficult to get the shed off of it when the time comes and I feel like me trying to pull it and moisturize it off every time is just hurting him more. Should I just cut it off and treat it with betadine then? Ideas?

Just let it come off itself if its just hanging there. They have veins that run through their spikes. And it will hurt if you cut it. How did it tear? You should only help pull the shafts off if they are done shedding and some havent come off, then you can try rubbing mineral oil on the stuck shed and gently rub the spikes the shafts will slide off if they are ready. I used to help my 3 shed spikes but I noticed I was causing the very tips to break off by pulling because it wasnt completely loosened up.

Yeah I only help when they need it and the shed part doesn't come off because of the torn part... It's been torn for almost a year now, it must've happened as he was wandering the house... but I'll just let it be for now, hopefully it'll come off

Can you get a closeup picture of the spike?
