i have a green ig that recently adopted me from a very malnourished and mistreated home. i've never done more than foster igs before and they always came with enclosures and (i'm finding out now) improper feeding instructions. there is no way in good conscience that i can send this one back to where he came from, so it would appear he's here for whatever's left of his lifespan.
he is by everyone's best guess 11 to 12 years old and yet no bigger (body-wise) than my forearm, he has been used in drunken "poke the lizard" games since he was a baby and incredibly anti-social, and has eaten iceburg lettuce, along with whatever crumbs and even (yes i witnessed this with my own eyes) roaches up until he came to live with me...
oh! and did i mention he hasn't had an enclosure in years and i'm broke!?!
i've resigned myself to the idea of a free-roaming ig with basking spots and read up on diet, he now has his own space on my grocery list. i've purchased a d3 added supplement to make up for his current lack of lighting... and i'm committed to buying him the $20 uvb bulb as soon as i've paid the shut-off notice on my lights, we've built him a few climbing spots and furnished one with a heat rock to tide him over for now... i plan to replace this asap!
other than a few missing toenails that i think may have snagged during dives from his ceiling height cat scratch pole he had at his old home, i don't see any obvious signs of twisted toes and what-not, i'm absolutely amazed that after this many years in this environment he is still alive let alone apparently undeformed (however stunted he may be)
should i adapt his diet any from the reccomended salad and greens that i am reading about to help his growth catch up?
also welcoming all tips on resocializing him as there are days we seem to find ourselves in "turf wars" with this clawed, fanged, tail-whipping beast!
this is absolutely NOT the way i would reccomend anyone acquire a pet, but since he's here, i would rather do as much as possible to make his remaining years enjoyable for all of us
