i have noticed a seriously negative change in behavior in Pipiopi in the last couple of days. On Tuesday, I was trying to get him out of his enclosure to give him a bath and he went absolutely nuts! He usually scurries away once or mayyyybe twice, but then thats it. On Tuesday, however, he started bolting around his cage, running straight into the walls and when i pulled him out, he had some blood on his lips that was coming from his mouth . i was really concerned, but I gave him the bath anyway, which he wasn't too bad for, and then put him back. The next day, I reached in to get him, and he got super aggressive. Didn't really bolt all over the cage, just stood in the corner and puffed up, and started tail whipping me really violently. Then, he did something I have never seen him do - he lunged at me several times and snipped his mouth as if to say "if you get any closer, I'm going to bite off your finger." I figured I would just leave him alone and let him cool off for the night. But yesterday, it happened again. He tailwhipped and lunged and snipped. Still no biting. I decided to give him some more time. Today, I tried to get him out again and he was crazy aggressive yet again. I reached my hand in and left it there so he would get used to it, but to no avail. Same aggression. I wasn't sure about how serious the biting threats were, so i put on a thin glove and picked him up. Once I got him out and in my hand, he pretty much calmed down like he usually does... What could be causing this behavior? I haven't changed anything about his or my habits. Maybe his small cage is stressing him out? I really want to build a bigger one, but i should seriously wait a few weeks till i move. I guess if I have to, I will build one. Please Help!!!

Have you changed anything with your appearance? How old is your Ig? Could be breeding season behavior depending on his age.

Nope, nothing has changed about my appearance, and at ~8 months of age, I don't think it would be a reproduction related cause.

8 months old, well then it sounds like normal behavior to me. He's still quite small and still unsure. My female Iggy still has freak out moments and she is around 3 years old now. Just keep and eye out for possiblities of what may be causing the problem, or it may be nothing at all.

My thought on the subject is that at 8 months of age.. He has finaly gotten used to the enviroment that he is in and now he is telling you to back off.. If you get him out of his cage and he settles down that is exactly what he is trying to do.. Don't back off .. If you do He Has Won and you won't like that!! Don't have to be brutal, but let him know it is on your terms.. Otherwise you get a hugh lizard for a display Item!!
The color of the clothes that you are wearing can have something to do with it. I find that my young one will freak out to the color white before she realizes it is me wearing it. Or maybe you moved to fast and startled her. Seems like once they are startled [and who knows why sometimes] it takes them a little while to settle back down.

i would say the same as the guy above me said , but you can try this training out.. iguana love to try and assert their dominance all the time against who ever they feel they can over come . you have to show you are the alpha male ;D, to do this you will have to at lease 3 times a day when he spazzes out.. grab him and pin him or her to the ground not to hard where u breaking bones or anything just enough to show force. now when u do this they will try and resist you can not let the Iggy over power you and get out.. once u have the Iggy pined it will puff up like all iguana do . it down till it starts to breath and relaxes alil.. do not let it out of the pin till he or she is mellowed out.. do it 2 or 3 times a day and you might find a change in its attitude in about 2 to 3 weeks. ;D

one correction to what i had said. when pining him dont just pin his body down, u have to pin his head too down. once again dont do it to a point where u are hurting it. and do the training in his cage where he spazzes out at. if u notice he calm when u finally get. that because at that point he relizes that you are in control. but the main idea is to get him to relize you run things even in his cage. you do this training at a young age you wont have a problem when your iguana gets old.
