I went to the humane society to check out an iguana they've had for a few days. His family got evicted, and the landlord called right away to get the animals new homes. He (I'm saying "he" but don't know the sex) is BEAUTIFUL. He's in a tiny tank right now, but we're moving him into a bigger temporary home tomorrow so he'll have a bit more space.
He started to eat at the H.S. today, and he's been pooping. I've had him home for close to an hour, and he's window dancing a bit and walking around his tank. I put some collard greens on a paper plate, and he has eaten several pieces! I'm taking that as a good sign.
Fortunately, he looks like he's been well cared for up until this week.
We'll be moving him to a bigger enclosure tomorrow and will be building a permanent (bigger) one over the next few weeks. Obviously, we'll be figuring out the temps/humidity too.
We have a bearded dragon and are pretty familiar with the concepts (basking temps, UVB, substrates, etc.). Please don't take that to mean that I think they have the same needs. I have been researching the appropriate temps, humidity ranges, foods, and everything else on here and other places. I just mean that it's not as hard for us to figure out as it was before we had our dragon.
I'm very excited but a bit nervous too. I'm glad this site is here. Thanks!
I'll post pictures soon too.
