i have a question.. should i keep hand feed my Iggie. i alway hand feed him since he was a hatching. and notice now he get so excited when i feed him that sometime he might aim for my fingers.. today it got to a point when i tried to pick him up in the cage he started following my hand as if it was food even tried to bite me.. now i know it wasn't a aggression bite.. i can tell he was thinking my fingers was food by the way he tried to bite my hand it was a slow movement and that look in his eye i alway see when i do hand feed him.. i was Reading up on a guy that hand feed his iguana and one day his iguana got out its cage. well the guy was sleeping and he woke up in pain cause his iguana bit the hell out of his finger. so what do you think i should do? should i just stop feeding him by hand and start laying his food on the floor under him so he can eat it him self when he out of the cage? or should i continue using a different method like using a tong?

Suggest putting it on a plate and putting it in the cage and letting him eat off that. You too don't want to be in the position of when he gets older, trying to dodge the mouth full of teeth. And he isn't going to care if your finger is part of the food or not.

If you are hand feeding at every feeding its a good way to train him not to eat any other way. And that can be a serious problem if something requires you to be away for a few days. The occasional hand feeding is fine but don't let it get to be a habit.

yea i don't do it everyday.. he eats in his tank Thur out the day.. and when i get in from work i like to hand feed him apples or sometimes some wheat bread soaked in water. i was talking to my home girl that he really started that going for my hand when i started giving him wheat bread.. i can tell that like his favorite thing to eat, he really go crazy for it.. but i can see how serious this issue can be.. so ima just stop hand feeding him all together and just keep it in his tank.. this is the first time I'm ever went Thur this cause my oldest don't even go for my hand he she almost 5 yrs old i been hand feeding her since she was a hatch-ling. i guess this to show even more every iguana is different and will act a different way towards different situations. thanks for your replys and advise.
