For ramps in the enclosure I used those rubber coated metal closet shelves, easy to go up and down. Well, my little brat has figured out how to "slide" down it. She gets right on the bar/side of the ramp, spreads her back legs out, and "wheee", right down the ramp into her sleepy plant! It's like a kid going down a hill headfirst on a sled, steering with their hands! The first time I saw her, it scared me to death Now she'll climb up to her basking shelf, go down the slide, turn around and do it again! (and again). It's like having a two year old all over again, lol. Why is she doing this to her mother? Cyndi

Heeeeeee! That's way too cute of a visual! When Vega$ was much smaller, iglet size. She used to jump alot, from the top of the couch to the couch pillows -- heh, it's a single story jump from her perspective. You could her see her looking down to scope out the jump (y'know check for wind variances, etc...lol), wiggle her butt (y'know, gotta get that velocity right!), and off she goes, with her legs spread out in the air, then plop..onto the couch pillows. Good thing she doesn't do that anymore! A bellyflopping 8.5# iguana is not a sight to see.

Get used to slides and just falling down / dropping. Those seem to be the preferred methods of descent for many igs. Bob just loosens his grip on his stuffed climbing toys, ones in his cage and ones that happen to be my arm or leg, and slides right on down. Grabbing with his back legs just enough with his back claws to slow him down, a little.
I now have a double fold of thick carpet across the bottom of Bob's cage under the tarp that is the substrate. It acts as a little padding when he nose dives 36 inches from his food shelf.
I know all about juvenile igs getting a running start and jumping from the back of the couch onto pillow -- just when this was happening I was sleeping with that pillow.

Great idea, Mark! I was thinking about trying to get some of that rubber matting that they put on playgrounds under the wood chips. Kyo will launch herself off of her basking shelf (abt 5 1/2' up, hit the floor, and shake her head like "what happened?" Then, she'll do it all over again! Right now, she's up on all fours, with her head stretched as high as it can go, trying to show my husband that she is bigger than he is. Only problem is that she has her lunch stuck all over her face Real threat there, huh? Little clown! Cyndi

Now she'll climb up to her basking shelf, go down the slide, turn around and do it again! (and again). Cyndi Just think. The "ig"sperts say that iguanas don't play. It sure sounds like play to me! The same igsperts say iguanas can't show affection, and argue whether iguanas have intelligence or not. I'm glad you're having fun watching your ig have fun .
