Do igs have the ability to just plain dislike someone?
After the incident yesterday with my son, I wonder if Kyo just doesn't like him.
My daughter and I can go in and she just lays there watching us, with my husband and oldest son she jumps up and is instantly on guard. But with Steve, it's getting awful. He just walks in the room and she is on the alert. If he stands next to her enclosure, her tail starts flicking, she stands sideways and puffs up. And like I said, she actually tail whipped him twice yesterday and drew blood. Steve didn't back down, tho, and kept on till she calmed down and he picked her up.
What's really weird is that Steve and I are the ones that interact with her the most.
Any suggestions?

Iguanas definately can play favorites. Some igs are know for having a preference for women over men and vice versa.

Yup, they definitely can play favorites. Have you tried going near her first and letting her know you're there before Steve or your son come in? Any time there have been people around that my igs didn't trust for one reason or another, it helped if they knew that I was there also. But, I think the "sequence of events" is important here, they should see you first and then the others. This way, they shouldn't feel as threatened when Steve or your son come in. Does Steve or your son leave when she makes those threatening gestures? If they leave when she does this, she'll remember that she can make them go away by doing this and will probably keep doing it. So, its also important that they stand their ground and even cautiously continue to approach her. The key is not to let the iguana train them to act the way she wants them to. Just be careful and consistent, it might take a fair amount of time, but she will most likely eventually learn that she has no choice but to trust these other people. But, even if she does learn to trust them enough to allow them to approach her and touch her, you'll find that when she gets stressed by their attention she'll always run to her favorite person for safety.
Good luck

I totally agree that they can and do dislike people. Thrasher absolutely hates one of my friends, for no reason that is apparant to me. And Herbie acts exactly like Kyo toward my 16 yr old son. Maybe it's just his size (he's nearly 6'3" and 270 pounds) but he talks baby talk to her and is really gentle. Many people have noticed that iguanas also react strangely to some colors, eyeglasses, hats, cologne/perfume etc. Maybe there's something in one of those areas that Kyo doesn't like about your hubby(?)

Heh...oh yeah...I forgot about some of those other items. In my case, I know better than to go anywhere near Hercules with a plastic bag. I'm not sure what it is about them, but they really freak him out.

I'm sorry, I wasn't specific. Steve is my middle son (15), Ken is my husband, and Josh is my oldest child at 16.
I don't know what it could be...we all wear glasses. The only thing I can think of is that Steve has very light blond hair, while the rest of us have varying shades of brown.
And Steve will not back down. Even with two bloody streaks on his arms (he got a matching pair, lol) he stuck with her.
When talking to my husband about this, he says that she definitely acts different when I'm not here. He says that she is more relaxed when I'm home, and "pitches little hissy fits" or pouts when she has to watch tv with HIM.
I don't believe any of it tho. My little angel would NEVER do anything like that ;D

We have a friend that Narcy absolutely hated (or was terrified of) even before the evil twin took over his personality. Matter of fact, he (Narcy) freaked out so badly in his cage when said friend walked over to him, that a week later i had to finally take Narcy to the vet for the deep laceration on his snout from ramming full force into the wall of his cage! Said friend just stays away from him now. . .we never did figure out why Narcy was so terrified.
