I want to make sure i do this right so someday he'll at least tolerate me taking him out of his cage he is beleived to be male, 2ft 5 inches if he tail whips me and/or starts runnign around the cage should i get him anyway to show him that kind of behavoir wont make me go away or should i leave him alone for a while should i be taking him out of the cage everyday whether he likes it or not, so he'll get used to it? any tips on getting him out of the cage easily this is the hardest part for me at the moment treat suggestions? his favorite so far is just greens from what im offering but since he gets those everyday its not enough motivation for him to come to me to get them and he has no intrest in te wheat bread i tryed to tempt him with yesterday, he didnt even want it after he got to taste it how long does it take to tub train? so far he's just been afraid of the tub. um wehn should i try to put a hip leash on him,do people sell them or do i need to make one. anything else i should know?

Well I dont know all the answers but I think you should hold him untill he settles down so he knows that he wont get away if he struggles enough and that he wont be let down untill he calms down and yes I do think you should take him out and hold him every day so he gets used to being held. . . . . . I hope I helped

Hi Jade welcome to the trials and tribulations of ig taming!
When he tailwhips you do not back down! You are the boss and he is going to have to realize it. When you want to get hold of him just do it and don't let him bluff you out of it. Likewise if you have hold of him and he goes to thrashing and carrying on. hold on to him. Do not let him go. When he is thrashing hold a little bit tighter and as soon as he starts to settle down ease up on th pressure. Now I am not saying to squeeze him till his eyes bug out but I think you get my drift. Start out just trying to reach in and touch him as opposed to taking him out of the cage. If you do it early in the morning as soon as the lights come on he will be a bit more sluggish. Also if you wait till hes gone to sleep for a little while he will be easier to get hold of. The tubtraining time depends on the ig. Many seem afraid of it due to the slick surface of the tub bottom. Its like sliding on ice to them.
Once you are able to get hold of him I would go ahead and use the hip leash. I have never seen one for sale. Everyone that I know of makes them.
For a treat I suggest cantalope. Most igs love it. its colorful enough to attract them visually and has a strong scent.

A tip for getting him out of the cage: I used to put a flyswatter up behind Thrashers eye (like a blinder on a horse) so she couldn't see my hand coming and then scoop her up. As for taking him out of the cage daily, HECK YES! ;D 2-3 times even! But sometimes......just talk to him without trying to touch him. That way he doesn't automatically go into defense mode when he sees you coming.

I haven't had Puppy for a week yet but I figured out that if i mist him first I can pick him pretty quickly. However I now have a designated "Puppy" shirt since he are always makes me wet, LOL I don't mist him everytime tho and he will whip at me and try snapping and hissing but I don't ever let him have the upper hand, cuz I'm sure he's all gigglin on the inside when he sees my scratched up arms ROFL

Eki runs away, sometimes thrashes wildly. But I grab him as gently as possible and don't let go. When he squirms I move him from hand to hand and try to make it clear that he IS NOT GOING BACK unless I PUT HIM BACK. He's getting this slowly. He learns to calm down and sometimes goes docile which is what I want. I hold eki 2-3 times a day on average plus his dad holds him some too.
