I give up, after today Bob has lost his outdoor privileges for the season. He gets dangerous towards people when in the yard. Once out of sight of the yard he calms down but if in the yard watch your fingers and anything else for that matter. However I can pick him up and move him back into his cage where he calms back down. In our climate controlled pseudo-room (a cage to many) I have no territorial displays nor do I have to worry about having a chunk of flesh removed; in fact I am sitting in here now with him on a shelf across from me watching and basking.

I think he's trying to establish his own territory when you take him outside. He already respects the indoor territory as yours, but the outside represents new opportunities for independence to him...a place he can call his own. ;D

Yes sounds like he realizes in the house YOU are the dominant. He's trying to stake a claim on the yard! Conflict with a male the size of Bob is NOT a good thing!
