Happy Thanksgiving!
I've had my Ig, Mitch, for 2 1/2 years. He was given to me by a caring caregiver whos family was endangering him.
So my Ig is about 4 years old.
Just this week he's been exhibiting some bizare behavior. He's usually extremely still. He rarely wanders around my apt. This week, he's been going by the front door and pooping! One day I let him out and he went around the corner and sat in front of someone's door. Yesterday he pooped several times in front of the door. Again this morning.
I had him tammed from getting to my plants on the window silve. This week, he's been trying to jump and climb on my plants ALL day. I felt like I had a todler yesterday. Mitch has never given me such trouble.
Can anyone shed light on my experience? Is he in heat?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Very funny!
I thought the same. Maybe he's tired of being in captivity. Has anyone experienced that?
I wouldn't want to abandon him, but would he be happier with other igs?

They need no companions, they are very territorial animals. Also its breeding season so he may be acting wierd just for that reason. I dont recomend releasing him back in to the enviroment.

Hi there~ Happy Turkey Day... ;D. It could very well be breeding season behavior. Males exhibit a lot of different behaviors they don't normally show during this time. Heightened activity levels, decrease in appetite, forgetting potty habits, and even being extra clingy - or extra aggressive. It should get better anywhere from a couple of weeks - to the beginning of summer...

That all fits with broken potty habits and scratching at the front door. Igs are not stupid. He knows something is on the other side of that door. They have an excellent sense of smell and can tell there is fresh air - and the great outdoors - on the other side. Remember...these are first and foremost...wild animals. Instinct is especially strong during breeding season.

I have experienced this "pooping at the door" behavior from Hercules, and from all observations I have made, it looks like he is expressing his frustration at not being allowed past the door. He usually does this when he's locked out of his room. He spends a great deal of time scratching at the door, and if I don't let him go through it, he poops. He has done this several times, even after pooping in his usual place, the tub.
Not sure how to tell you to solve the problem you have though, since you obviously don't want to let him go outside by himself and without a leash. In my case, since its a bedroom door that bugs Hercules, I can keep him from doing that by just opening the door.
