They've got this stuff at the pet store called 'All Natural Juvenile Iguana Food' That claims it's full of everything they need. I thought about adding a little bit to his diet just to be sure he definitly is getting all the vitamins and things he needs, but I'm not sure. Any suggestions?

It would be ok to add a little to his regular diet, as long as he'll still eat his food. One of the problems with this stuff is that most iguanas will turn their little, green noses up at it...apparently, it doesn't smell or taste very good. Just stick with a varied diet, using the greens and veggies suggested here, with a vitamin supplement added to the food mixture about twice a week for a juvenile ig. If you're feeding him a properly varied diet though, you shouldn't need vitamin supplements as anything other than to just give your green guy a little boost.

It also depends on which company is making the food. Some use more fillers than others. A big thing on dry, commercial foods is that they tend to cause dehydration in igs if not soaked properly. These will pull moisture from the igs own body...kind of like little sponges drying them out from the inside. Stick to fresh foods and a good varied diet and you will need no supplements.

I too have on occassion used a "dry food" as a bit of a supplement. Just as a change of pace in the diet in addition to their regular food. As V said you have to be careful what is in it. Many of the commercial diets include animal products.

viva4eternity,
which brand iguana food did you get? I use Rep-Cal juvenile iguana food, but not as a main food. I mix about half a tablespoon into his salad, I soak the pellets and then mix it into his salad of greens so he eats a significant amount of it because a lot of it is stuck to the leaves.
For some reason, my ig doesn't like food that is cut really small. He would not eat foods that I cut up too much. I just tear the leaves into nice big pieces and he will eat a lot more this way. I even sometimes leave whole leaves WITH stems in the cage (mustard greens) and he would bite off the leaves and leave the stems. I find that leaving whole leaves without cutting up on occasion, that the food rots a lot slower than cut up leaves.
