Does anyone else have a food-lion near them. I do and I love to get my greens from them. Reason y is this they don't sell their greens by the bunch they are all loose greens for 99 cents a lb. I can get one produce bag and stuff it with all the different greens I can find. All pieces hand picked so I can get pieces with little or no stem. It really makes it a lot easier to shop for greens for the week because instead of having to buy bulky bunches that go bad to fast I can just get what I need for the week and go. ;D only problem is I can never find dandelion greens anywhere around here. Except in my yard in the summer. I have about a quarter acre crop of them in my back yard

Never heard of it. But you dont have to buy the whole bundle. You can remove what you dont want just make sure you have the bundke tag number.

We had those Food Lion stores in Oklahoma for a while but they ended up going under. Seems that they had some severely questionable health practices.

We had a Food Lion in CA, but here in TN it's Kroger and Super Wal-Marts...

The Wal Mart and Kroger stores around her wont let u do that they will only sell it by the bunch not the weight so if I take them the bundle tag then I get chared fot the whole bunch instead of for what I need.
Also Wal Mart here has started changing all their leafy produce over to bags its verry rarely that they even have bunches. They will have bags of Colards and mustard and so on instesd of bunches. And on top of that each bag is like $3 - $4. And im not talking about the salad in a bag stuff like is made by dole.

They smell half rotten already and go bad faster than bunches do. They still sell both here...bunches and bags. In Nashville (2 hours away) they have the International Market place where it's based on weight and not bunches. They have broader selections of foods, too. The South American section has tons of stuff. Whenever I go to Nashville and have the time to stop there (folks live there) I load up on stuff we can't get here... ;D

The stores here also sell the greens by the bunch, not by the pound. Try approaching the produce manager in the stores (not the kid stocking the bins!)and explain to him that you are not happy with the bagged stuff and request that they return to selling the bunches. Our local grocery stopped selling individual bunches of green onions and started selling them in double bunches in bags. Several people told them they didn't like it that way and they returned to the selling of individual bunches.

I have been having pretty good luck lately with the "Cut n Clean" brand in the 2 pound bags. That's for collards anyway...the curly mustard of the same brand always seems to be in horrible condition. It IS actually more work to remove the stems though, because now I have to strip multiple, small sections of leaf from small sections of stem. The Safeway near me just started selling them again. Due to the snow storms here, it was almost 5 weeks that my igs were living on whatever greens I could manage to find, and a MUCH higher ratio of solid veggies than I normally feel comfortable with. Our supply situation is back to normal again though. Heh...it was so bad, a lot of gas stations were closed because they didn't have any gasoline to sell. Gasoline and food trucks couldn't get here, and the National Guard was air-dropping food to the cattle stranded on the plains. Weird weather.

It hasn't been like this in 24 years. The Thursday before Christmas, we got 33 inches of snow in about 12 hours. I have a 4X4 Jeep Cherokee, and getting home from work that night was entertaining...even in that vehicle. There were a few times, like when I crossed the end of our runway where I work, that I couldn't see past the end of my Jeep's hood. Then, as if that wasn't enough, the next Thursday we got another 21 inches...but luckily the previous snowfall had time to melt and compress a little bit. Right after that, high temperatures of 0 to 5 degrees fahrenheit. Heh...I work outside too...so that was "fun". ;D It was an easy commute to work though, the only people on the road were a few serious 4X4s...and the rest were people on cross-country skis. ;D

Not usually a problem here. Thankfully, our infrastructure was designed to deal with it. I have an Enerco Mr. Heater propane heater for the igs though, just in case, along with 5 propane bottles. The food and gasoline trucks wouldn't have any problem at all if those trucking companies actually acted like they had a financial interest in delivering in all types of weather. FedEx and UPS trucks all were equipped with chains, so they kept delivering, when everyone else had said "It'll never work, we're all gonna die."

when everyone else had said "It'll never work, we're all gonna die." LOL...I just can't help but think of just the THOUGHT of impending snow around here. Everyone clogs up the supermarkets buying out the bread and milk preparing for the snowy apocolypse... *snortle*
