Hi everybody! ;D
I just wanted to make a post about the excellent experience I had this evening, shopping for the first time for iggy food at a store called "Whole Foods Market" in Denver. After several weeks of being frustrated by the poor quality and poor availability of ig-friendly items at the regular supermarkets, I decided to venture into the unknown today. I have stubbornly spent the last weeks, even months, driving from one store to the next, because Store X didn't have this, Store Y didn't have that, and many times, all of them, including store Z, had things in such horrible condition, I couldn't believe these people were trying to sell them for human consumption. Stuff that had wilted and/or gone rotten days before, but it all "just came off the truck", according to the produce managers. Well...I won't be giving those places my money for iguana food any more! Being a very politically incorrect guy, I admit I had kind of an unfavorable image in my head of "whole foods" stores...picturing a bunch of old hippies picking through inferior quality foods just to prove some point to the world. Wow!!! Was I ever wrong!!! I hadn't even walked 20 feet into that HUGE store, and I had already procured 8 awesome food items for my igs. So many of them, things that my igs have only had rarely because I could never find them anywhere, like Dandelion greens, Watercress, etc. The best part, it was all in EXCELLENT condition, it all looked and felt farm fresh. The watercress was in a HUGE clump, STILL ALIVE, I had to spend a little extra time chopping the roots off and washing the soil away, but it was worth it. The collard green leaves were plump and crispy, unlike the wilted, nasty ones I get at Safeway. The peppers? Well, I don't think I have seen them that plump and fresh since the days when I grew my own. I also bought Arugula, which was also in huge clumps, still alive in a little clump of soil. Oh...and then there was the parsnip I bought. Heh...more like a SUPER PARSNIP...nowhere close to the puny, nasty, wilted things in the supermarket. My food processor even had a little trouble with it. Too many others to list. It was a little bit more expensive than the supermarket, but not really, since I didn't have to burn extra gasoline, and ONE PLACE actually had EVERYTHING I need. Heh...their mushroom and fungus section really gave me a craving to do some Chinese cooking this weekend, which I still might (Home-made Hot-n-Sour soup...yummy!). This stuff is all organically grown, so no extra "technology" is ending up on my igs' plates. I honestly have not gotten veggies this fresh since I bought radishes and cucumbers from a farmer selling his crop on a street corner in St. Petersburg, Russia. OMG...that was THE best salad I have ever had. But, I digress. ;D I also felt myself being pulled toward their HUGE, fresh seafood section, but that's a story for another time. I had to stay focused on getting good food for my iggies, so I made myself turn around and leave. My iggies haven't had a meal as good as the one I prepared for them tonight, in weeks, even months. They're gonna be so happy! ;D Overall, from a guy who went in expecting to be disappointed, I am now a loyal customer. Heh...the friendly, clean atmosphere also made for a very pleasant shopping experience. If you're in Denver, and have an iguana, I HIGHLY recommend this store on Hampden and Tamarac (heh...that's the best part...only a few blocks from my apartment). ;D
