I have the proper fixture for 48" flourescent bulbs for Will.( 2 of them. ) I started using them in January and I'm getting readings of about 30 now.
Willie loves his Mega Ray Bulb, but he's feeling better now and moving around more than before. He has a comfortable ledge under his flourescents and he's beginning to hang out there.
If anyone knows the better brand and where to get them at a reasonable price, I would really apreciate knowing about it. I paid about $75.00 for the fixture and 2 48" bulbs at Petland after Christmas.
many thanks, n

Great to hear Will is feeling good enough to start moving around! That's excellent Nance! I believe the Reptisun 5.0 or Iguana Light 5.0 are the best UVB tubes on the market. If you buy them at a pet store, they're pretty expensive. If you buy them online, it's not so bad. I recently ordered stuff from www.reptiledirect.com and am very pleased with the whole deal - quickness, quality and price - you might give them a try! I'm sure others will be able to post other links for you too ~Nan

The fixture you could have gotten from Lowe's or Home Depot for around $20. All you need is a self-ballasted shop light...which those are. Wal-Mart has $7 shop lights, but the ballast is not equal to those in the slightly more expensive ones. They actually do make a difference in the UVB output in the tubes that go in them. Nancy has the best link for low-cost UVB tubes...
