I know there's SPECIAL EXPENSIVE UVB hoods that you can buy for the UVB florecent light tubes. But what type of hood do you REALLY need to hold the tubes. What kind of Ballast is required? Socket, industrial lighting etc?
All and any help is much appreciated. Also websites or "home depot, menards, lowes" sorta stores. Thanks a ton! Eki's getting his UVB soon! YAY! ;D

Home Depot has a good selection ...you have two choices.
#1 Pre wired and ballasted ( recomended)
You simply pop in your ight and plug it in.
#2 Non pre -wired -you will need to wire it to a plug and swich yourself) this type requires a little knowledge of basic electrical.
There seems to be a better selection of the type you have to wire yourself ( atleast in my area Home depot)
At any rate all you really need to know is the size of the bulb ...when you go to get the fixture.

T12 is the suggested size for a UVB bulb and an adult ig. That's what the 48" bulbs are...they say it right on the bulb. There is a broader selection in the "self-wiring" jobs...thank goodness hubby knows that much! If it was me doing it...pre-wired is the only way to go!

The fixture and ballast greatly effect the UVB output of the lamps.

Dom is there a particular specification on the packaging that will differentiate the good ones from the bad?

Hopefully Sunday all of this will be taken care of. Bulb buying, hood buying and all that jazz. And maybe a new tank even though he has plenty of space. We're going to be getting a bigger one. Plus we found what looks like a deal on PVC pipe. So we'll be starting to build a new habitat. YAY!

Aluminum foil will also help as a reflector for whatever type hood you use. Making a new thread on this.
