I just bought a Repti Glo 5.0 uvb for about $13 and I want to know if this is decent for the time being. It was all this local small petshop had. Boyfriend convinced me it read 5.0vb which is does. But why does everyone say reptisun 5.0?

The Repti-Glo has one of the faster decay rates snd lacks consistency. The Reptisuns have been proven to be the most consistent with minimal fluctuations in the UVB emissions and are longest lived out of the flourescnet tubes.

The Repti-glo 5.0 (by Exo Terra) is a decent bulb and should do fine Reptisun 5.0 ( ZooMed ) is more popular ...IMO due to the agressive marketing of ZooMed Products , Just be sure to hang the light in such a way that your Iggy can bask 6-8 inches away as the UVB output drops fairly quickly the farther away the light is.
Also their is allot of BUZZ going around about lining the fixture with aluminum foil to increase (reflect) the output....

LOL...they're not really crappy...just not the best out there...and definitely should be changed out on the 6 month end of the time frame unless you have a meter.

;D
I suppose
You provide what ya can afford ..This light will do for now ...( a good investment is a UVB Meter) lights are strange ...one person gets crappy readings and the next gets decent readings.from the same product.. personally I get great results with MV bulbs I have always recomended them ..however I had been using the Powersun 160w and only got 6 months out of them before failure...I now use the new westron EB MV as it seems to be at the top of the class right now.. There is no limit on the care you can provide other than your wallet.......
I have a dream of having a entire room ..converted to tropicall rain forest ....as soon as I win the Lottery... ;D

I use a 36" Repti-Glo 8.0 and the PowerSun MV - which isn't nearly as good as the EB MV bulb at reptileuv.com, but it was also a matter of what I could afford, and what I had on hand - so I just combined the 2.
Unfortunatly, all of my bulbs will expire within 6 weeks of each other, so this coming February is going to be IGspensive! Thank Heaves for tax refunds! LOL

The Repti-Glo 8.0 is comparable to the Reptisun 5.0. They are pretty equal as far as quality and UVB emissions go...
