I use both CHE's and household bulbs for heat. My large Iguana enclosure uses a 250 watt CHE and my ball pythons use a 150 watt CHE. A reptile heat bulb is just a fancy light bulb that costs a lot more. A household bulb does the same thing. My Beardies and Boa are heated by household bulbs.

We're using a 4-5 year old che bulb that is still outputting on the top shelf 70-80 degrees depending on the room temp.

We use a CHE for night time heat and a 50 watt G.E. Reveal incandescent spot light bulb for basking during the day. The CHE remains on using a thermostat in case it is required for supplemental heating as we turn down the heat in the house during the day. The Reveal bulb is advertised as a full spectrum bulb so it provides a light closer to the colour of natural sunlight. It should be stated that the Reveal bulb does not produce UVB, so should not be used as a substitute for proper UVB lighting. It does enhance the colour of everything in the enclosure when compared to a regular incandescent bulb.

I never had good luck with the CHEs but I do like the MegaHeat HPs. 60 W heating element which cranks out heat and warms my basking spot nicely. This one focuses the energy into a tight beam so you are not just flooding the cage with heat as you would with a CHE.
As with any heater be REALLY careful with a CHE. These are made in really high wattages and get hot dang hot. If a cord falls over the light dome it can easily melt off the insulation causing a short. If it touches something combustable it can cause that to ignight or at least emit a ton of nausious smoke. And if an ig touches a hot element you will have a bad burn on your hands.
