Ok so I am still not sure of where I should be placing my extension wire for my thermometer that gives the 2nd temperature (the little black sensor piece on a indoor/outdoor thermometer). The slightest ajustment can make the temperature change even 5 degrees. I currently have mine laying directly under my igs basking spot where he would be laying, my thought being that it is the temp we would be getting on his back. However, I have seen many pictures where the wire is hanging in mid air in the basking area. Please help me in this matter. Thanks.

I placer mine on the wall at the basking spot. The other end (the readout) is in the bottom of the enbclosure. This gives me the hottest and coolest readings.

I have all mine hanging on the walls just outside of the basking spot -- this includes both the thermostat probe and the thermometer. I also know that this will have them run a little lower that the actual basking spot so if they're reading about 88 to 92 F I don't worry.
Remember this is not a chem lab so you don't need to know the EXACT temp just within a few degrees. The cage you have is, currently, large enough for the ig to move around and thermoregulate as it needs.
