How long does MBD generally take to show symptoms? When we got Kyo in Feb., the vet said that any problems that show up in the next few months would probably be due to care that was given before I got him.
Also, can igs get too much calcium? I have been told to supplement, and not to supplement. He gets collards every feeding and with the high cal to phos. ratio, I was wondering what I should be doing here.
I don't really have any concerns, just wondering. He's had UVB 12 hours a day since I got him, and recently outdoor exposure. He's growing like a weed, but I think the shedding is slowing down (finally!). He has really bulked up in the past couple of months. His legs look like tree stumps! Not fat, just all muscle! I remember wondering how he could walk on them when we first got him, they were soooo skinny!

As in any thing too much calcium could be a problem. As long as you are loading him up with good calcium rich greens you should be fine. Personally I give a light dusting of calcium powder (just hardly visible) once a week except during breeding season when I up it to a couple of times a week make up for egg production.

Cyndi, the minute you got Kyo, MBD symptoms started disappearing. ;D and he won't develop any new ones. I only used Calcium supplements with my igs for about 4 months after I got them. After that I used the collards AS the supplement by giving them a larger amount of collards than other greens. The lizards that I've had for a long time now get a wider variety and fewer collards. (altho they do still get the collards daily) The most common unseen problem would be with his kidneys. Good hydration is the best you can do in that area. Thrashers first blood panel (a year ago) showed early signs of kidney disease, and more recently I found crystals in Herbies urates, so I'm somewhat anal about giving mine drinks daily from a child's medicine dropper. You are doing a great job of caring for Kyo! Just keep up the good work and try not to worry so much.
