Hi Gang, Well, it's been several weeks since Xander had the tip of his tail (about 2.5 inches) removed due to severe injury from the wicked people who had him before us. He's much happier now, much more active, but I am a bit concerned about the way the tip of his tail is healing. As you can see in the pix below (click for larger version), the skin and flesh has pulled backwards and left the tiniest bit of bone exposed. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I worry about possible infection. We still haven't found a reliable herp vet around here, so I hesitate to take him back to vet that nearly killed Bailey during a simple amputation. Have any of you had any experience with this sort of thing? Thanks! --Roc

Don't know what I'm doing wrong with the ImageShack links... they worked the first time I clicked them, and now they don't. Piss and bother. Guess I will just upload them to my own server and post the originals here if anyone else wants to see them.

The botom picture is the one I would like to see better. It has the concave look of a tail that is still affected with dry gangrene. The vet did not amputate far enough up the tail. Even if the bone was partially showing, if it was healthy tissue left behind this would have started to heal back up over the raw/exposed area.
I have had this very thing happen to one of my rescues. The tail was in horrible shape...I could smell the decay in his tail. After amputation...and about 2 weeks later...I realized it was done to close to the infected site. In all he lost over 7 inches worth of tail.
It honestly looks like he needs more amputated which should be done 1 1/2 -2" past the part that looks infected.
