I am so upset i was holding draco today and he started thrashing and i heard a snap. i think he has broken his leg cause it is just hanging there. he uses it but not very well. i am so ashamed to even be saying this,i feel so guilty. we have only one vehicle and i cant get him to the vet till later. my hubby works late (after vets are closed). i know i have to get him to the vet but is there anything i can do to make him more comfortable till then. i am in tears even talking about this. please give me so advice on what to do. thanks everyone.

I know you didn't mean to hurt him. Accidents do happen. You're doing what you need to--taking him to the vet. Does he like baths? Maybe a warm bath will help. I think the best thing to do is keep his stress level down any way possible.

The only thing you could do right now is to try to immobilize the leg. Sometimes easier said than done. I would turn the lights out, cover the cage and make it just as pitch black dark as you can get it. The ig will think its night and settle down to sleep. I have handled a number of wildly thrashing igs but none have ever broken a leg just from thrashing. You might have the vet check his bone density and see if there is possible an MBD problem. Good luck and let us know what happens!

I'm sure you feel badly, but you didn't intentionally hurt him. You are doing all you can for him, and hopefully everything will turn out ok after the vet visit. Good luck.

Well thought I would update you all. Draco did just fine and is now in a splint. She (the vet said a girl) is in excellent health and it is suppose to take 6-8 weeks to heal. The vet said that she is a real sweetie. I guess it was just a misfortunate accident cause the vet said that draco's bones look fine,no MBD. Well I will keep you all informed on her progress. I have all kinds of meds i have to give to her. antibiotics, pain meds, and wormer. Thanks for all the support and making me feel better. I felt so guilty when it happened.

Sorry this post is late (the server's not letting me in here lately).
I'm glad to hear Drako's doing ok now. Please do keep us posted on her recovery.
