When we got Venus she had two missing claws, They recently started bleeding when she scratches. Not alot just a drop or two. Couldit be that the skin healed over and new claws are growing beneath?

If the claws have been gone for any length of time I would suspect that the claws are broken off beyond regrowth, the toe had healed over them and in the scratching the skin was ripped back open. Neosporin time.

Thanks Merlin but is there anything I can do to keep her from tearing them open? Can I bandage them with cohesive safety tape? I emailed the guy we got her from and the claws were gone before he got her so I guess there not going to grow back

What is she rubbing them on to make them bleed? If it's the mesh - you could add a safety strip of plexiglass across the bottom to keep this from happening. If it's on the bottom - linoleum is slipperier and smoother than wood and will add some form of protection that way.

Scratching at the side of the tub made them bleed the one time, she likes to scratch at the front door as well. It also happens when she climbs too. So its a combination of climbing and scratching. Never a problem when she is in her cage. Im baffled, this just started.

It may be that the skin is just thin there and with you offering her extra levels of activity is just aggravating the tips. This may sound weird, but I wonder if a little crazy glue on the very end for protection might help. It adds a hard layer and will easily come off with each shed if it doesn't get worn off before then.

No not weird at all, in fact we did end up using some glue last night. When I get the cohesive tape I ordered Im going to try some to see if that will help protect her toes. I work at a furniture manufacturer in the finish and assembly department, so My fingers are constantly exposed to sand paper and other rough surfaces, so I thought since this tape works for me it may help Venus. The tape is thin but tough, sticks to itself and not the skin, flexable and water resistant.

Excellent!! It will give her poor little toes a chance to heal! You may end up just sticking with that. The tape (the stuff used by doctors and vets?) probably won't stay on with all the climbing. This stuff sticks to itself, but I know it doesn't stisk to tails very well...or doves with broken wings!

Its a multi use tape, used in many proffesions, Im still going to try it ;D If it doesnt work Ill stick to the super glue, poor Venus must think we are nuts LOL.
