Would it hurt to utilize some cotton rope I have, for some hammocks or climbing toys???

without seeing what it looks like....
my immediate questions would be:
how easy to clean? can iguana tangle himself with it? can iguana get toes stuck? will it fray? how sturdy is it to support the iguana's weight?

I found an alternative. Every year one of the Amarillo Firehouses donate about 500 lbs of old firehose to the Zoo for primate and other animal toys. I nabbed a canvas piece about 6 feet long. Given the knowledge that they run chemicals through these hoses mixed in the water. I have rinsed this piece inside and out thoroughly as well as sprayed it with bleach water and let it sun dry for about 5 hours. Given that this is canvas, it should not fray, it should provide a good grip without providing a claw trap. It is also incredibly easy to spray with a water hose, and it is untangleable.

Just in answer to your question about the cotton rope. It will be ok,... for a while. You need to make sure that it is thick enough that there is no way for it to get tangled around the lizard, a good inch thick at least. Also watch because in the wear and tear it will eventually start to shred.
