Now that Puppy has become more accustomed to us and our home I had an idea. I have a deck on the back of my house that has a roof and is enclosed and screened. The bottom is reinforced with wood XXXXXXXX across the bottom so that the screen cannot be pushed thru, there is a screen door as well BUT there is a 1/2 inch gap between all the slats of the wood floor. I'd like to make this a nice place for Puppy to be indirectly exposed to the sunlight but I'm worried about the gaps. Do you think he would hurt himself on them, toes, tail and such. Would doing something like this be a good idea? What do yall think?

The point to worry about is the screen. Fiber glass screen deteriorates and weaks with exposure to the sun at the same time Puppy grows and become stronger. Then there is the toe nail issue and toes getting caught in the screen -- Bob lost one this way to a steel screen when young.
Your best bet would be to remove the lattice and install a kick wall around the deck, 1/2 inch or so above the deck and climbing to about 18 inches, to prevent Puppy from climbing up the screen then above the kick wall continue up with the lattice.
The next thing you NEED to check is how easily the screens pop out. Bob is able to either push the whole screen frame out or push the screen and bead out of the frame. Screens are only strong enought to continually stop bugs weighing no more than a few grams (think large beetles or dragon flys).
