Whats up...
just joined and got a question, I am building a new cage as I am planning on getting an iguana. I am going to use all plywood/plexi-glass front. I am going to have an automister in there and was trying to figure out what to cover the wood in so it doesnt warp from the water/humidity.
Has anyone used the spray on truck bed liner in one of their cages? it come in deep black and dries with a texture and is really durable. I have it in my jeep and my truck, and if it hold up there an iguan shouldnt be able to pick it apart.
Anyone see any probs with using this. I would air the cage out for awhile before adding the igg.

Hi and welcome to Iguana Zone!
Not knowing the toxicity of the material I would have serious reservations about using it in the enclosed high temp environment of an ig cage. There may be a problem with residual fumes. And iguanas taste everything!

I would also have to disagree with the bedliner, if you are looking for materials to use, instead of plywood use the money you would spend on the bedliner and upgrade from plywood to Melamine Sheets, it's already waterproof and holds heat and humity quite well.. I'm looking into making a cage myself and I did my research if you are looking to make a totally enclosed habitat then I would say something like if not actual Melamine would suffice. Also you can get specially treated plywood that is resistant to high humidity. But i'm not 100% sure on the effects of fumes from the reisgn they use to bond it.

you can also get sheets of FRP board... it usually has a sort of marble pattern on it... that they use in shower enclosures... you'd have to adhere it to your plywood (particle board) though.
but then, you'd have to check into whether the adhesive is toxic too.
