The PetSmart staff (yes, the people who think they know everything) has told me that they have a new "bedding" made just for green iguanas.... I'm not sure about it (it's in the cage right now) because it is bark... should I change the bedding? Or leave it as is? Everytime I tell my mom something new about iguanas she says "OH.... It'll be fine" or something along the lines of that, and won't let me change it. Can someone check this out please, I need and opinion on this stuff.

If it is bark you need to change it. Its not really a maybe. The ig could ingest it and have blockage. Newspaper, butcher paper or something of that nature works good and alows quick cage cleaning. Personally I use newspaper. Cage tidiness is very important for you and Alexi

NO kind of particulate substrate is safe. This means anything that has loose particles. The pet stores just want to push their product. This stuff has killed not only iguanas, but many other kinds of reptiles, too. The only thing you should have in there is newspaper (not shredded), butcher paper, end paper from newspaper spools, linoleum, reptile carpeting (trimming strings as they unravel), or other non-particulate substrate. Just a few months back on another group...a woman had to take her ig in for an emergency surgery for a blockage. $700.00 later they removed the bark that blocked the intestines...
...so yes...change the bedding...:-)

Definitely a no go on the bark or any particulate substrates...I like indoor outdoor carpet and especially newspaper...(the carpet is quite the task to clean!)

I love the carpet, I think it looks nice and it's soft, but I agree with the above that it's hard to clean!

My baby has never had an issue with plain old newspaper. What's great about the newspaper is the few times he's gotten out in the past he's found newspaper or any kind of paper on his adventures out that he went on the paper. Iggs are smart and will use paper to poop if that's the normal thing they use for pooping. Our eki has never gone anything but on paper and in the tub with warm water.
