hello folks....imma newbie here so be prepred for what might be a dumb question or more we (me n girlfriend ) just got ourselves a lil fella sunday evening.... hes only around 5 inches and already pretty damn cool.........showin blueish green spots already around the neck so i think this guy will turn out pretty colorful..... learned already his baskin spot was to close to the heat lamp cause he head for cover in his hidespot......so i made his baskin spot farther from the 75bulb after readin how far to properly put it. now he lays in the light instead of beside it or in the hidebox . also had a scare the 2nd day ..thought he was sick and had eye issues cause we saw * crust *around the eyes...here turns out he is startin to shed cause we noticed dryskin on the head...geez this guy got me all worried already haha ok im done rambling -----AndyM

Welcome, keep reading and peppering us with questions.
There is not a set distance that the baskingspot should be (heating wise) rather you want to pick up a few thermometers and go by those readings. Place a thermometer at the baskingspot, feeding area, and the coldest corner of the cage. The basking spot should be close to the UV bulb though, less than 10 inches if you use a tube type.
What is the cage you use and how do you have it set up? If you post a pic we can help you lay it out for your guy.
The other thing you want to start reading up on tonight is diet. I will put money on the fact that the pet store did not feed 'em well.
