i am pugluvs boyfriend i came across this site when mentioned by Merlin on HerpCenter.Com We are currently the proud owners of several snakes - of which our PERMINANT residents are a yellow anaconda, an albino burm, and a brazilian rainbow boa also have a pacman frog, pug dog, over 100 mice (breed them as snake food) - and 12 or so rats (fancy rats - breed them for $$$ - [not that much $$$ though]) i have personally loved ALL herps from the time i knew what one was in fact - the catchy little jingle my dad came up with for me to remember my home number was inclusive of a herp... " ... *** - 0248 - Ronnie gets a snake..." i blipped the first three numerics so as not to give out the number to the person or persons who have that number currently sadley enough - all i got was a rubber snake... my mom and dad were deathly afraid of herps - and my dad was scared of mice - and my mom hates crickets - so i couldnt have the animal or the food... she always told me that when i move out i could get as many is i wanted... thanks mom! lol anyway - i am part of the little do-diddy that is recieving the ig from pugluv83's intro thread - and for the most part - it was my idear... here is the ad i scanned a copy of it we go to pick him/her up tomorrow at 8pm anyway - HI!

he/she should come into our posession tomorrow at 8 -
i and gonna rig a hip leash and bring the new "baby" up front
were gonna load the enclosure into the back of my ford "pick'em'up" as my dad calls them
anywho - im really looking forward to this - i have already been informed yhat that chicken wire needs to go - what should i replace it with
by the demensions of that - it seems to be a sorta - flat - thing only 2' high - i may just buy some sealed 2x4's and plywood and build my own
just need to know what a good "meshlike" material would be
i THINK it would work if i did a 6'x4'x6' out of 2x4s and a base reinforced with 4x4s and plywood - lined with self adheasive linolium squares - and for the sides - use a plywood wall - but line the insides with that decrative lattice stuff that they typically use to decorate decks and such so he could use the gridlike layout of that lattice to climb and points to secure climb branches... id have to double the width though so that he could get a good grip...id put a platform at 2' on the left - and 4' on the right
i am just spountin off - but anywho - im really psyched

Ugh...note the lettuce.
This ig does seem to show the male jowls, but that can show up in females ocassionally...so I'd hate to base it solely on that, but I'm leaning towards male, too.
As for mesh...plastic coated wire is wonderful stuff. Home improvement stores will have this in the garden center.
Lattice work...should work well, but you will need to make sure you seal ALL the wood with a water-based polyeurothane...about 3-4 coats worth. This keeps the uglies from soaking into the wood and keeps the bacterial level down AND makes cleaing easier.
Cleaning. Lattice would make a hard one to clean with all the crevices and crossovers. Igs snalt and poop a lot! Keep this in mind when using you design.
Welcome to the Zone... ;D

Hi Crash, errrr Ron! Welcome to Iguana Zone!
Two foot high? Igs like height. it would be better used turned on its end. I agree with Prism Wolf. The lattice could make cleaning very complicated. The simpler it is the cleaner it will stay. Personally I am not fond of mesh cages. I prefer solid walls as it makes it much easier to control heat and humidity. And your electric bill!

I agree with you Merlin on the more enclosed enclosure. I have the whole enclosure solid except for the front which is an extruded mesh used for fisheries. Long lasting and very sturdy. I like the open front since ventilation is so good for summer, but may make some plexiglas panels to fit over this in winter.

we were planning on turning it on end until we got a new one thrown together - its gonna share our bedroom with us...and 100+ mice...and a bunch or rats.......
we have 2 adult rats in a metal mesh cage - that the IG should have fun watching when there is nothing else to do
im gonna steal a barrel clamp off of ne of my jackets in our closet - and see what i can get stringwise
i have a '91 ford ranger XLT supercab edition - so i will likely just plop the cage in the back - tempt fate - and try to make an "iggy in a blanket" and tote him up front and make ginny carry him in her lap...
we made our first ig salad last night after a trip to the grocery store...
greens include
Mustard Greens Collard Kale Green Beans in the pod green bell pepper
the mix contains 95% leafy - and the other 5% is the beans and bell pepper
the leafy stuff is about 2 inches big - the grean beans were "de-stemmed" and cut into 1/2 - 3/4 inch pieces - and the bell pepper about the same
cleaned and filles the sink with water - dumped it in - and washed it all
blotted it all dry (made a lot so this took a good while) and overfilled 2 1 gallon freezer bags - squeezed the air out - and placed it in our fridge
the fruit part contains a blend of
papaya raspberries grapes kiwi acorn squash nectarine and a few mushrooms (which i have read from anapcid that igs like them in food occasionally)
everything is finly chopped - so that the ig cant "select" his favorites - but has to eat other stuff to get it....
this was all blened together and put into a small bucket with a lid and fridgerated too
will be served at a 80% greens and 20% fruit combo
didnt mix the greens into the fruit - as it would make them soggy
anyway!
were ready for him/her!!!
