I want to introduce myself, Adam. I just bought my first ig two days ago, on September 25th. I am guessing it is a girl, basing that on nothing. The guy I got it from said you can't tell at this young age...she/he/it is only approx 6 months. So I'm going to assume its a girl, just for name's sake. But here I am, and if any of you have any good words of wisdom to help me and Camille get used to one another, send it on. Thanks for your time, and I look forward to getting to know a lot of you very well.

Welcome Adam! Did you do your research before you got Camille...or learning on the job. If you are learning OTJ...then you need to catch on quick... ;D. There's a lot to learn. Igs need three core requirements for survival. Without any ONE of these things your ig can contract the #1 killer of igs...Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD). 1) UVB - The proper UVB is paramount to a healthy ig. Zoo Med's Reptisun 5.0 or Iguana Light 5.0 are the best flourescent tubes on the market. The 4' tubes are the preferred size since you will eventually need that size anyway, eventually. There is a mercury vapor self-ballasted bulb that is awesome from www.reptileuv.com. I highly recommend them. 2) Heat - 92-96 in the basking area which can be obtained by using a regular household bulb. 80-85 ambient temp, 70-75 cool/nights. The proper temps enable the ig to digest properly. 3) Diet - look in the "Diet" section of this forum for the right foods. Commercial ig food is a bad choice...and never any lettuce. An ig does not grow only as big as his "cage" (ugly word). The habitat will need to be 6' x 6' x 3' for a full grown ig. Taming does take time. Patience, a routine, persistence, patience, not backing down when Camille goes nuts, patience and sometimes a little bribing won't hurt. Any specific questions and we will be more than happy to help you where we can. The best thing you can do is LOTS of reading...search this forum...and then if you have any more questions...we be here... Three excellent sites: www.greenigsocietywww.anapsid.orgwww.iguanaden.com

Thank you for the heads up. I have been reading everything I can in all this forum. I'm at school right now, so it helps. But I need to go to class, but thanks for the starting-out help...and, and I am just learning on the job. Thanks.

I have a rescue iggy and with a proper diet (which I got from this site) he's coming along quite nicely. I've had him about a month and he's gained weight, color and his wounds are healing. He's getting more secure with my son and I everyday and it's just GREAT! Still having heating issues but I'm getting those corrected so learning as you go can be a little stressful for sure!!! Just keep reading and asking questions and listen to the people in this group and you're little iggy and you will be thriving in no time!
