Hi ...my 2 Year old Ig just passed away. She layed 21 eggs and I had an 'inept' vet!!! Evidently she had a broken egg or an egg blockage. I have been trying to find a rescue or pet store in my area to donate my time, or be a foster for an Ig, or donate my garden full of Iguana greens. I ran across your site and went to the 'Ring Hub' and actually found a rescue and hour away from me. ;D I tried e-mailing this rescue, they have two different e-mail addy's and neither of them are valid. This was listed in the 'Ring' ----------- "Alabama Reptile Rescue We take in all reptiles from anoles, to iguanas, nile monitors, caimans, and even retics. Please come visit the site to find out more about us,how you can help the rescue, links, and a variety of herp pics." ------------ Was just wondering if these links are checked out before they are listed with "The Ring'!!! !!! Thanks ....Leeslynn

Welcome to IZ Leeslynn! You will find a few familiar names here! I can't answer your questions about the hub but I am sure that Tesa or one of the mods will be along soon.

Hi Leeslyn-
Welcome to IZ!
So sorry you had to go through all of that with your poor iguana. We can never seem to stress enough that female iguanas require preventative care around being gravid, as you know, even the vets are not very well versed.
As far as the Ring goes, I believe you are simply invited to join and you fill out the necessary information and it posts. I don't believe that anyone "checks them out". It's a shame too, because anyone can post anything they want for the most part.
I would suggest you contact local ASPCA and see if they can point you in a direction for volunteering your time.
Enjoy the site!

Hi Leeslynn I'm so sorry to hear about your iguana, and can most certainly empathize with the egg issues. I nearly lost my girl last year when she was gravid and the "inept" vet didn't diagnose her properly (or at all for that matter). Her eggs didn't form shells (preovulatory stasis) and would have most certainly taken her life by rupturing inside her had we not removed them surgically. I was just lucky enough to know something was wrong and get her to a good herp vet before it was too late. Unfortunately Dominick is right; it's a simple matter of filling out forms. I do believe they "look" at the website, but there are no mandated qualifications other than the general topic of Green Iguanas. I will inform the ring of the broken links, and let you know if I come up with current contact information. Welcome to IZ!
