i posted in the diet forum but thought i better come here to. Me and my new iggy boris is coming in to say hello i am a 24 male from oxford in the uk and boris is a 4 year old male. he is aprox 4 ft in entgh and good tempered. I got him from a rescue home and he came to join me and the rest of the collection.
To ansew some one eles question, while at work boris is kept in a 6ft long by 4 ft high by 3 ft deep viv he has a repti 5.0 uv bulb. His basking spot is 90-98 and the coolest end under his shelf is 75-80 he has a pool in there and it comes out for daily cleaning. once me or the wife gets home his viv is opened and he gets run of the house we have placed spot bulbs in most rooms so he can warm himself up and then run around again. his food is dusted with calci powder and is giving multi vit once a week. he is regulary handled for taming. anything i missed just let me know. and i'll tell u if i do or dont do.
Oh and HI all thanks for having this brit on the server.
Oh and ansew to qeustion in diet getting hold of collard greens in this country is a noghtmare, so he does not get them

Hi again Steven! The important thing is to have most of the diet calcium rich dark greens. Turnip, mustard are great as is dandelion. Can you get those there? I have a few friends in the UK and I will see about finding acceptable substitutes. Also one flourescent tube in a cage that size is not really enough. The useable UVB drops off dramatically over distance. If the ig isn't within about 12 inches of the bulb it isn't doing any good.

LOL thats the problem with new folks on a forum. You never know just how much they know so you start off with simple questions! ;D
My UK friends report the same problem you have. No collards. One tells me that the greens sold as fresh mixed greens have collards in them but she isn't sure. They suggested trying the small vegetable stands as opposed to the big stores. You can also use endive and watercress. Happy hunting!

Hi Steven So glad you adopted Boris!! As Merlin said, collards aren't necessary. They just happen to have THE best calcium:phosphorus ratio of 14.5:1 If you go look at the food chart here, webpages.charter.net/tesa64735/Revised2.htmyou'll see that there are many foods you can give Boris and still maintain a really good calcium level in his diet. Welcome to IZ!

As much as I hate to disagree, Tesa, Collards are 7.79:1. Its STILL above 2:1 though, and that's what really matters.

hmmmmmmm Sean ?? According to USDA they have 145 mg CA :10 mg P per 100 grams raw..... Whats your source? I wanna compare some other items and see if there are vast differences. www.nal.usda.gov/fnic/foodcomp/search/

DOH!!! My source was MKs web-site, but the chart I have is several years old. It may have been a typo or something. I would definitely trust the USDA website more than my old chart. Well...I'm glad I said something, otherwise I wouldn't have known my info was inaccurate. Thanks Tesa! ;D
