We had an accident with Hannibal Tuesday night. He got away from my husband and ran into the kids room and hid, we looked everywhere, but it was too late by the time we found him. Their room was a cluttered mess and he hid in a sheet on the floor I dont know if he got stepped on or suffocated. I feel so bad, Im considering finding new homes for the Angus and Iggy piggy, before something happens to them too. Im so sorry I wasnt more carefull.

I'm so sorry this happened to him...:-( It's too bad you hadn't mentioned something then. I've had some experience looking for lost igs in the house and maybe could have offered some tips. Zair used to hide under the clothes in the laundry basket the three times he went missing when he was younger. At the very least you might have been able to carefully pick up the room so as not too accidentally injure him and have found him AND the kids have a clean room at the same time.
So why would that make you think the others two would be better off with someone else? It's possible, but you care for these guys very much. Hard lessons learned often make better keepers for our green friends. I have had some awful experiences, too...at the expense of the life of an animal. It only made me want to try harder to do right the next time. Let it be that way for you too...:-)

I am so sorry to hear the news. Sometimes these unfortunate things happen though. I agree with Prism, you can not give up now. Where would your human children be now if you gave them up after something unfortunate happened?

sorry about your lose , but as everyone has said dont throw in the towel on the other iggs. If you had accidently, which im sure this incident was, were to hurt one of your children would you give them away?! Your ig is family so keep the other guys and just love them as much as you can and relize that they can be gone at anytime, there too damn cool of an animal and companion to let go of ;D

Thanks everyone so much for your support. The whole thing has me feeling like an unfit Ig mom. Normally Hannibal would have climbed high so we looked high . Im not giving up my other 2 its not fair to them. But Im not taking on anymore rescues for quite a while. I need time to mourn and deal.

Awww...I'm so sorry for the loss. They don't realize the hard that can come to them when they do dumb things and hide in bad places. *sigh* Definitely do not give up. Accidents happen, this is simply a life lesson to be learned from. Maybe even the kids will clean up their room, you know just in case? Hang in there, it'll be ok.

It is tough. I'll never forget the Chinese water dragon I took in severely emaciated, dehydrated and no longer even moving. I brought him back and after 4 months he was nearly healed and eating silkworms from my hand...then I let the chair too close to the aquarium and as I was sitting in the next room watching tv...the smallest ferret got in and chewed on his face and head. Who knows how long it took for this ferret to kill him.
You'll always think about Hannibal...I do Tatsu all the time...but it does get better.

Sorry for your loss...poor little Hannibal. Definitely stick with it though. Hannibal didn't die due to a lack of love or caring, he died because he's a different creature that it takes years to even BEGIN to understand. You did right by him in his day-to-day care...he just pulled a surprise on you that you couldn't have prepared for. Its a live and learn kind of thing. My sweet baby girl, Mercury, was lost about 4 years ago due to her falling off her perch at night and hitting her head as she fell. She lived a whole additional day with me and my vet feverishly trying to save her. I still think about her and how she died, which is why I woke Audrey up last night to move her to a safer place. She has a habit of climbing onto the top of her habitat door when I forget to close it and she goes to sleep there. I moved her to a safer place so she wouldn't fall. She looked especially precarious in her position last night since she is VERY gravid, and OMG is she EVER so much wider than the top of that door. ;D

Prism, IK, thanks for letting me know Im not alone. We told my daughter that we had found Hannibal a new home, but we told my son what really happened and explained that the floor must be kept uncluttered for the safety of the animals.
