Well, it's been 8 months of absolutely hell, but I think I can finally declare Bailey back to normal. The season from hell is over. We put him in a cage for two weeks, and after much violence, he finally calmed down and all the orange finally went away. He's seems to be the old, sweet Bailey once again... and I'm just so happy, so relieved, I could cry. He spent about an hour in my arms that way the first day I took him out of the cage. We have had several more similar moments and yesterday we even let him loose in the house again. He's also gotten over his violent attitude toward my husband and the cat. Whew. Thanks to everyone who encouraged us to just be patient! --Roc

Awww...great picture Roc. Glad to have you and Bailey back with us again. Unfortunately, Hercules just started his "season from hell" about a month ago...both me and Audrey have lost a lot of blood over the last few weeks. But, it looks like the worst is over, I just had to be willing to endure a lot of pain and learn really quickly about giving antibiotic injections to Audrey. He almost killed her, but she's back to her old self again, even used all four limbs for the first time this morning. She was so thrilled (as was I, I can understand your being so happy you could cry) that she ran laps between the far ends of my apartment after her bath and breakfast. I still haven't gotten Hercules to the point where I can hold him for more than a few seconds, but, at least he's not dishing out those blood-drawing tail slaps anymore. How's your ankle? I hope it healed well.

It's such a relief, and such a joy, to have him back again. I hesitate to get *overly* excited, though, because the next step is to put him back in the habitat with the female. If he doesn't flip out again after that, *then* I will truly celebrate.
Thanks everyone!

My ankle has healed quite nicely, thank you, though I now have a most impressive and nasty purple scar.

Hi Rox-
That's WONDERFUL news! I'm sooo happy to hear it!
I think Bailey will be just fine now, even when he is returned to the female.
I'm so freaking happy for you!!!!!
Rex sends happy head bobs to you all!

Well, it was nice while it lasted. After a little over a week of keeping the reformed Bailey inside with us, we decided it was time to put him back in the habitat with the female. When first put back in the habitat, he acted very shy and timid, moving slowly away from the female whenever she approached him... we thought this was a good sign. 24 hours later, when we went to feed them, the Evil Bailey had returned with a vengence. After a bout of violent attempted attacks, we threw a towel over him and put him and his food bowl back in the reptarium. Now I don't know what to do.
Did the presence of the female cause this to happen? Does that mean we have to get rid of one of them? I don't think we could make that choice. We may only have had Mary for a few years, but she has become quite a nice little iggie considering her past, and I don't think either my husband nor I would have the heart to give her up. Separate habitats is out of the question.

I'm thinking it could be very possible that Mary's presence caused this to happen. Hercules was his usual sweet self until I finally got him and Audrey to where they could peacefully co-exist. Then he became the male ig that I had read about, but hadn't actually seen yet. He has always had his moments where he would fight me and test his place in our social structure, but he recognizes me as the Alpha iguana and has really only tried to bite once. These days, he fights me all the time, I think he probably sees me as competition for his mate. Still doesn't try to bite though, so I think its out of jealousy more than trying to challenge my position, he already knows he can't win and I think its his way of pouting. I keep trying to tell him that Audrey is his, but apparently she quite frequently rejects his advances. The problem with that, is that she always tries to run away, rather than nipping him, so she was pretty badly injured the last time they had a "romantic" encounter. I separated them and Hercules still fights me, probably because he can still smell Audrey in my apartment.
