Narcy had started to become a little more managable lately, but i noticed in the last week he has become very nasty tempered again and when i had him in the tub last night he turned that 'breeding season orange' color that he hasn't shown for at least a couple of months now. Can they go through two successive seasons? Please say no, you've never heard of that. . .

I have.... I'll cross my fingers for ya. Maybe it's just a "fluke".

Hercules hasn't really even finished last year's season yet and he's about due to start a new one in a couple of weeks. I'm well-established as the alpha male iguana, but he tests me constantly. This isn't normal for him though, I think its just something weird about this year from what I have been reading, other people have been having the same problems.

Ig-nino...*snortle*
Some igs never do come out of breeding season. This is when the option of neutering comes to mind. Granted this should always be sought out as a last ditch effort to hoefully correct the issue, but it's certainly not a 100% option either.
GOOD LUCK!

I like the Ig-nino effect! that's good!
i don't know if i would consider the neutering option. . .#1 it doesn't appear to be a certainty that this will change the 'tude and #2 i'm sure it is not a cheap procedure. if it were some kind of life saving procedure i would not hesitate, but for an elective thing, well, Narcy would have to start learning how to use tools to get out of his cage at night to attack me while i sleep i think before i will take this route. Anyway, at least i am confident on how to handle him now, unlike 8 months ago when this first started happening. Unfortunately, as long as he is acting like this, he cannot free roam and must stay in his cage. That is one of the reasons that we built him a nice big cage, because he is too nasty tempered to let him out to roam. i wish i could just explain this to him! Since i can't, i will just have to continue to handle him cautiously (and firmly!) and keep an eye out for leaping, charging lizards. . .
for those of you who have been through the toddler years with a child, i always think of when my kids would be holy terrors all day, and then look like little angels when they were asleep in their beds that night. i love to look at Narcissus when he is asleep and remember how sweet he used to be ALL the time, not just when asleep. . .maybe someday, when he's alllllll growed up.
