Does anyone know if sunflowers are safe for Iguanas to eat? Totally free of fertilizers and pesticides of course!
Thanks!

Wow! That was a tough one to find! Finally found this on Melissa Kaplan's site:
Helianthus annuus (WILD ARTICHOKE, WILD SUNFLOWER); plant may contain toxic levels of nitrates.

Thanks a million for finding that for me! I looked on MK's site, couldn't find it - nor at Ig Den - I just had no luck at all! Thanks again! I won't be giving it to my babies after all ~Nan

I would avoid the leaves for the same reason I avoid the leaves of my squash -- little sharp pokie hairs. If you work with the leaves long enough the hairs embed in your skin, not what you would want in your mouth.
