I moved my Ig to a bigger enclosure a few days ago. He's gotten quite used to it already and is climbing around all over etc.
The change never affected his appetite. As I at first fed him in his basking platform. He ate like a horse. But then, I was told that if I don't put food on the lower levels, he won't get enough exercise coming up and down and will develop problems later, especially if female and when she becomes gravid she won't put out the eggs properly without the muscle tone. So I put the food on the lower platforms (there are two sides to his shelves and 4 levels including his basking platform.)
I notice that he has eaten a LOT LESS since then. I think he has eaten, because some food fell outside the bowl, and some was stuck to his mouth, but he obviously has eaten like 1/4 of the amount he has eaten before.
I don't know if it is because he has trouble finding the food, or if now that he's spending less time on the platform and more time exploring that he is getting less UV and thus less appetite?
I'm really sick of him eating only 1/4 of his food and then the rest goest o waste because later on in the day the food is all dried and rotten and this includes the supplements and calcium that I sprinkle on it it is really such a waste. I worry he may not get enough nutrition.
He's obviously not "Not eating" as at night last night I saw he hasn't eaten so I hand fed him some and he ate it up in gobbles.
Should I add another UV light? I currently have only 1 tube of Exo-Terra 8.0 Repti Glo tube. I would like to use "Rep Pro" self ballasted mercury vapor bulbs. I heard they are good quality and while not throwing light far as the Externally ballasted ones (which unfortunately is not avaiable where I am, and I do NOT order stuff through the mail, especially something as fragile as light bulbs). Is that a good idea?
