can dandilion greens be the largest part of the igs greens? I have a bumper crop and the leaves are huge this year. Also what do you think of mulberry leaves? heres the link, they seem to have a good calcium phosporus ratio and are good for cattle..I have several mulberry trees too... www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/duke_energy/Morus_alba.html

Dandelions are an excellent source of greens, but shouldn't be the sole green. It can be a major one. It should still have at least an equal part with two others keeping the collard greens for sure. Mulberry leaves can be fed in moderation. Make sure you don't have chemicals from overspray if you live near crops. This is why I can't use mine this year. They fertilized early this year...:-(

Patrick (my landlord/neighbor/enclosure builder/ect...) doesn't use any chemicals in his yard so I haven't had to pay $1.99/lb for dandelions lately. Huff just adores the yellow dandelion flowers so he has been in "ig" heaven. When I got my first EB kit, it had a yellow sticker that looked like a giant dandelion flower. Huff tried his hardest to eat it. He is stubborn and it took him a while to give up. I have been putting dandelion flowers in his water dish to encourage him to drink. Patrick has Hibiscus in his yard. Baby and Dragon loves them so I'm waiting for them to start blooming. The leaves are supposed to be edible also. But I do try to offer 3-5 different greens.

My guy loves the leaves but wont touch the flowers. Im pretty lucky that noone sprays even remotely close to me so everything in my yard is good.....But Im starting to get these icky pricky plants that resemble dandilions but without flowers and they are taking over..I either have to pull out by hand(ughh!) or get some weed killer(yuck)

Actually those are mature dandelions. You probably had white seed balls also. I don't like to feed them at thnat point. If you use weed killer though you shouldn't feed anymore dandelions from your yard.

I've got look-alike dandies, too. I looked them up once and have since forgotten what they were called. I'll try to look them up again soon.

Ed and I jsut moved last week and went in search of local stores. Our Jewell down the block has FRESH vegges and collards that are huge! Cheap too. But today we found a dominicks not far and they carry dandelion greens @ 3.99 a lb. I know whole foods carries them but now sure how much. We're broke this week so 3.99 a lb was too much for us. But I was excited the burbs carry them. My bf use to live in the outskirts of the city of chicago and we found collards easily all the time we worried about the burbs. But are having no trouble at all!
