Just curious - is cooked oatmeal(unsweetened) ok to feed to your iguana? Was thinking of a way to add some more plant protein to my Ig's dish and oatmeal popped into my head.

I would stay away from the cooked oatmeal...unless it was whole-wheat and watered down considerably. The stuff is pretty thick and sticky. Soaked whole-wheat bread would be a better choice, but the best of all is using alfalfa. It's very high in plant protein...:-)

I've never seen anything relating to it being ok to feed oatmeal so I'm going to go with no, but if anyone knows of something else please do correct me. As long as you're providing a variance of greens and veggies in your iguanas dish you should be good for plant protein. Collards, Dandelion, endive, mustard greens, green beans, okra and even parsley are great for protein...there are many others but those were to name the ones that can be used as a staple. Take a look here for info on the amounts of protein in each item: www.greenigsociety.org/foodchart.htmThey have a great resource of info. Hope this helps.
